Monday, May 16th, 2016, kicks off the 4th annual Quad Cities Beer Week (QCBW), and will run through to Saturday, May 21st.
This year we’re doing things a little bit different. This year, the focus of QCBW is really about the little guy (or gal). It’s about the home brewers who make beer for fun, not commercially. It’s about the nano breweries who are brewing small, boutique batches, just a few kegs at a time. It’s about the local chefs ordering great beer and paring it with bountiful feasts for the Quad Cities. It’s highlighting local business owners and small-scale brewers who work hard every day to create or deliver the craftiest of ales and lagers.
QCBW is celebrated with a fun event each night of the week at different beer-loving establishments and ends with a wrap up party in the District of Rock Island that will feature 3 rare kegs and 3 local bands. Attendance to any of the week’s events will get you a free ticket to the Saturday evening party.
Monday, May 16th – QCBW kicks off with a homebrew demonstration on the pavilion at O-Keefe’s Sports Bar at 4:30. Brian Traughber, owner of UBrew, local bomebrew supply shop, will team up with Curt Johnson, the President of the MUGZ homebrewing club to teach us a little something about making beer at home. O’Keefe’s features 26 craft beers on tap and samples of homebrewed beer will be provided. O’Keefes is at 1331 5th Avenue in Moline.
Tuesday, May 17th – QCBW invites you to have dinner at Sippi’s American Craft Bar & Grill. Their 20 beers on tap are on special, a mug for the price of a pint, and their menu is filled with delicious homemade fare to pair with. Take a growler with you, because they will fill it! Mention Quad Cities Beer Week to your server and get a free ticket to the Saturday wrap-up party. Sippi’s is at 406 W. 2nd Street in Davenport.
Wednesday, May 18th – Local chef Brandon Zawada will host a Beer Class Beer Dinner at the Milan Hy-Vee. Chef Zawada will serve a several course meal while teaching about beer history, the brewing process, and what styles go well with what foods.
Thursday, May 19th – Radicle Effect Brewerks will host at Quad Cities Tap Takeover at 6pm. There will be several local beers on tap and you can meet the brewers from a few of them. Support local, drink local at REB at 1340 31st Street in Rock Island.
Friday, May 20th – Kavanaugh’s Hilltop will welcome Potosi Brewing Co. for a tap takeover starting at 6pm. The craft beer industry is about brewing and selling tasty beverages, but it is also about buying though distributors and supporting other communities in the region. Potosi is just over the Iowa border, a beautiful scenic place that makes some great beer. Try some of what they’re producing at the Hilltop located at 1228 30th Street in Rock Island.
